Premise - When Tommy Boy's dad dies it's up to him and his sarcastic friend Richard to hit the road and try to save the family business. Tommy Boy took quite a critical beating when it got it's theatrical release, but I think it's one of the funniest films ever made. Not since Airplane! had I laughed so much watching a film. In-fact I had to see it a second time. I was laughing so hard and tears were streaming down my face that I missed a lot of the jokes! The pairing of Farley and Spade is inspired, there chemistry is marvellous, as is shown again in the not quite as good 'Black Sheep'. Farley was a master at physical comedy and for a man his size he can fair move about. Spade is the perfect foil, putting Farley down at every opportunity with his sharp and pithy comments. The support is good with Lowe flexing the same comedy muscles as he did in Wayne?s World. A nice cameo from Dan Ackroyd adds to the comedy flavour on show. I can see how some people might not like this film, it's fairly low brow and some might be turned off by the fat jokes at Farley's expense. However if you are looking for a good laugh with some beer and a pizza then give it a shot. |
