Few can argue with the consistent quality of the Coen brother movie output. Whilst not everybody likes all of their films, you would be hard pushed to find someone who doesn't like at least one of there movies. I fit in to the former category, I appreciate all their films on some level or another and OBWAT(as it will now be known) is no exception.

In-fact it is safe to say that OBWAT is an excellent movie and one of the Coens best. Up there with Fargo and The Hudsucker Proxy.

One of the first things that strikes you about OBWAT is that the film looks absolutely lush, everything has a gorgeous golden glow and it makes the film very easy on the eyes. I'm not sure what process was used in developing the film, but it's lovely.

The acting talent on show (as with any Coen movie) is excellent. From Coen Veterans like Turturro and Goodman, to virgins like Nelson and Clooney. Clooney in particular adds to his quality performances from Three Kings and Out of Sight to hopefully lay the ghost of Batman and Robin to rest once and for all. The actors can also carry a pretty mean tune (although word is Clooneys voice was looped later), during the films many musical numbers.

Script and direction are tight showing the Coens preference for the quirky. Special mention should go to a KKK meeting played out as big musical number, genius.

Overall this is a cracking movie with a great script, great acting and it looks just fantastic. What more do you want?

8/10 for O Brother, Where Art Thou?
