Premise - A serial bomber targets the Miss America beauty pageant. Dowdy FBI agent (Bullock) goes undercover to investigate.

Miss Bullock's career was in need of a severe boost at the box office and this movie seems to have done the trick. A completely inoffensive movie that only the most hardened and bitter person could not find charming and entertaining. Bullock is perfectly cast as the tomboy like FBI agent who must go undercover at the pageant under the tutelage of gay makeover expert Caine. Caine as well seems to be enjoying himself and he and Bullock have some nice dialogue between them. The other characters seem to have bit of a raw deal and don't have much to do. Shatner though is superb as the aging show host and it's great(being a Star Trek maniac) to see him in big movie again.

The directing is fine though flashy camera angles and framing are not what this kind of movie is about. The script shines and gives the two main characters some cracking laughs, although it is guilty of a few cliches. Also it exposes the seedy underbelly of the beauty pageant, but not to the same extreme as 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' this is a romcom after all.

At the end of the day Miss Congeniality is perfectly good way to use up 90 minutes and is worth a look as either a date movie or something to watch and switch off your brain.

5/10 for Miss Congeniality.
